KINGSPORT, Tenn. — St. Andrews women’s volleyball player Kaylah Sloop was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year.

The Mount Pleasant, South Carolina native notched 326 kills and accounted for a total of 363 points this season. Sloop earned AAC Attacker of the Week honors twice in her first year with the Lady Knights.

Sloop was named to the league’s all-freshman and all-conference teams. Sophomore libero Karina Lozada joined Sloop on the all-conference team.

Five St. Andrews players — Lozada, Kelsey Houser, Brooke Thomas, Kylie Winchell and Savannah Yates — earned spots on the AAC all-academic team.

Katie Lovett, who has served as an assistant coach Holly Mandeville’s staff for five years, was named the conference’s Assistant Coach of the Year.

St. Andrews (15-12, 12-7 AAC) played its first match in the AAC’s single-elimination conference tournament on Thursday against Union College. The final score of that match will be posted on laurinburgexchange.com.
