LAURINBURG – City police made several arrests for drugs in the last week.
Police were conducting a license checkpoint on McGirts Bridge Road on Thursday when a car attempted to turn around, according to Assistant Police Chief Terry Chavis.
Police stopped and searched the car and located marijuana, pills and cocaine.
Keyshawn Whitfield, 21, of Chestnut Street, was arrested for possession with intent to sell and deliver, aggravated possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia and given a $6,000 secured bond.
Kirby Wright, 28, of Fairmont Street, was arrested for felony possession of a schedule II drug, simple possession of a schedule II drug, simple possession of a schedule III drug and aggravated possession of marijuana and given an $8,500 bond.
Police seized two cell phones, $187 cash, a bag with 7 grams of marijuana, seven grams of cocaine, a bag with 6 OxyContin pills, a bag with three hydrocodone pills, two grocery bags with marijuana, a jar containing marijuana and digital scales, according to Chavis.
In an unrelated incident on Friday, police arrested a driver on drug charges after a traffic stop.
Jessica Lynn Duty, 32, of Sycamore Lane, was charged with driving while license revoked, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and simple possession of marijuana and given a $500 secured bond.
In another traffic stop on Saturday, police cited Johnny Brown Jr., 34, of Caledonia Road for simple possession of a schedule VI drug and passion of drug paraphernalia.
