LAURINBURG — Candidates will have a chance to talk about themselves and their platforms during a forum on Oct. 20 at the Scotland County Court House.

The Laurinburg-Scotland County Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Extension and Community Association County Council and the Junior Service League of Scotland County, will host the 2016 Candidate’s Forum on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m.

The forum is open to contested races in Scotland County, including school board, county commissioners and state Senate.

Each candidate will have several minutes to expand their platform. The media will ask questions followed by questions from the audience. Candidates have two minutes to respond to the question asked.

Candidates without opposition will not participate, according to chamber officials.

“The forum will provide an opportunity for citizens of Scotland County to question candidates their concerns affecting the county and to meet candidates running for political offices,” said Chris English, chamber executive director.

In the race, for state Senate District 25, Republican incumbent Tom McInnis is running against challenger Dannie M. Montgomery, a Democrat.

There are three open seats to represent Stewartsville on the county school board. Those running include incumbents, Jeff Byrd, Wayne Cromartie and Pat Gates and challengers, Karen Ackwood-James, Brian Gainey and Rick Singletary.

Candidates for the at-large seat on the board of education are incumbent Charles E. Brown and challenger Carolyn M. Banks.

County Commissioner Robert “Bob” Davis, Sr., a Democrat will face Republican challenger Bill Parker.
