Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel officiated by the Rev. Clayton Gween. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Hunt Strickland, his son John E. Strickland, Jr. (Christy) of Grantsboro, his daughter Portia Penny of Laurinburg, his brother Joe Strickland of Laurinburg, his sisters Ailene Strickland, Martha Strickland, and Juanita Strickland of Laurinburg, and his grandchildren William Warren and David Penny of Laurinburg and Dixon Strickland of Grantsboro.
Born on Feb. 17, 1947 in Scotland County, he was a son of the late Hardin and Margaret Bowen Strickland. Earl served with REA Wire for 22 years and later operated John’s Convenience Store at the intersection of Caledonia and Stewartsville Roads. In his spare time he enjoyed farming, gardening, and walking through the fields.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
