The day after Christmas, Dec. 26, 2012, the windows of the earthly home of Marie McRae Amaker, 85, of Laurinburg, opened so that her soul could ascend into Heaven to be with her Lord, family, and friends.

Born in Laurinburg, Marie was the daughter of the late John and Estella McCoy McRae. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her oldest son Darrell, sisters Elizabeth Leak and Roberta Blue, brothers John Willie and Major McRae, and niece Josephine Sharpe.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the Morris Morgan Entertainment Center at Scotia Village. Dr. Jesse Brunson will officiate. Burial will be in the Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery.

Viewing of the body will be at Morris Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, Jan. 3 from 11 a.m-1 p.m.

Mrs. Amaker is survived by her son Wilbur Amaker, Jr. of Washington state, grandson 1spSgtFSg1 Wilbur Amaker, III USMC (Michelle), two grandsons: Michael and William Amaker of Havelock, three nieces: Frances Freeman, Barbara Kelly, and Lucille Olige of Laurinburg, nephew Cicero Leak, Jr. (Paulette) of Charlotte, grand nieces Deborah S. Jackson of Charlotte and Andrea E. Mercado of Manhattan, N.Y., Kena Leak of College Park, Ga., grand nephews Leon Sharpe, III (Terresyna) of Sawanee, Ga., Patrick Sharpe (Frankie) of Gastonia, Cicero Leak III (Kristi) of Cary, Skylark McKenzie of Decatur, Ga., and James T. Freeman of Laurinburg.
