Born on Jan. 28, 1919 in Marlboro County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late LeRoy and Mary Frances Adams Stanton. She attended Fletcher Memorial School and graduated from high school at St. Mary's School in Raleigh and graduated from Martha Washington College in Staunton, Va. She was married to Robert H. Stillwell.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, listed above.
Mrs. Stillwell is survived by her sons Robert H. Stillwell, Jr. and wife Lynn of Gastonia and LeRoy Stanton Stillwell and wife Bonnie of McColl, grandchildren "Doc" Stillwell and wife Whitney of Bennettsville, S.C. and Alexa Stillwell of Columbia, S.C., and great-grandchildren "Colt" and Paisley Stillwell of Bennettsville.
She was a lifetime member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church in McColl, where she served as treasurer of the Louise-Sue Fletcher United Methodist Women. She also served as treasurer for many years for the Saturday Afternoon Book Club. She was also a member of the Marlboro Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Burroughs-Cooper-Kiser Funeral Home in Bennettsville, with funeral services at Pine Grove United Methodist Church in McColl at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012. Interment will be in Tatum Cemetery. The Rev. Ann Everett and the Rev. Leon Newton will officiate.
