The #7 St. Andrews University women’s lacrosse team suffered its first defeat Monday afternoon as the team fell 19-9 to the #1 ranked Shorter University Hawks down in Rome, GA.
Shorter (5-2) came out on fire on their home field as they raced out to an 8-1 lead just midway thru the first half leaving the Knights stunned.
However, SAU would do their best to rally in the second half as they outscored the Hawks 6-5 and even scored three straight goals at one point to cut Shorter’s deficit to single digits. However, in the end Shorter’s trio of stud attackers would be too much for SAU to overcome in falling 19-9.
Avery Armstrong led Shorter with an impressive 8 goals while Shelby Beverly and Mia Higgins added 4 and 3 goals apiece.
The Lady Knights were led by senior Shana Schroeder’s 5 goals and junior Catherine Lovallo’s two. Junior attacker Jackie Jones also added a second half goal and an assist while senior Victoria Bickett added another goal and 4 draw control wins. Schroeder led with 7 ground balls and 5 caused turnovers while Lovallo had 6 GBs, Arianna Smith had 5 and Sky Walker collected 4.
Dylana Galery also got her first action of the year behind goal as well as she took over for GK Meghan Powell late in the first half and recorded 4 saves.
Schroeder and Lovallo are now tied on the season with 28 goals apiece.
St. Andrews, now 6-1, will continue their Georgia road trip as they make their way to Reinhardt (0-4) to battle their conference rival today at 4 pm.
