With Andy Cagle’s departure from Scotland County Schools for a post at Richmond Community College, the school system is looking for a new spokesperson.
Cagle has accepted a position as director of marketing and communications at RCC, to begin in April. A resident of Candor, he has served as the schools’ public information officer since 2006.
“Andy has been a true asset to Scotland County Schools and we appreciate his service and professionalism for the past seven years,” said Superintendent Rick Stout. “I would like to wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
In his position as public information officer, Cagle has been the primary liaison between the schools and the public, corresponding with local and regional media as well as overseeing information dissemination through school websites. Cagle also spoke on the school system’s behalf at official functions.
“We want to thank Mr. Cagle for all he’s done for Scotland County and Scotland County schools,” said Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Cory Satterfield. “We applaud the things that he has done for us and we are excited that he has the opportunity he has.”
Cagle will remain with Scotland County Schools through the end of March.
“It was a really tough decision for me - I feel like I’ve grown up here a lot,” said Cagle. “It’s closer to home for me, and it’s an opportunity for me to grow professionally. I’ll have a staff of recruiters and an assistant director there - for me it’s a very good next step in my career.”
In his new role, Cagle will report directly to RCC President Dale McInnis and will be responsible for leading and implementing the marketing and community outreach efforts of the college.
McInnis said when Anne Morris, director of public information, and Jennipher Love, director of recruiting, retired, the college decided to integrate the two positions and make a new one.
In addition to the work Morris was doing, Cagle will also be supervising recruiters and be in the process of hiring an assistant director to help him in the position.
Cagle graduated from Richmond Senior High School in 1996 and moved on to college at North Carolina State University and The University of North Carolina at Pembroke where he graduated with his undergraduate degree in 2001.
He is currently attending the University of North Carolina for his master’s in technology and communications.
Seeking applicants
Satterfield hopes to find a candidate to fill the position prior to Cagle’s departure.
“We’re looking for an individual with a four-year college degree in journalism or communications,” Satterfield said. “We would love to have somebody with experience in journalism, public relations, or marketing.”
The schools’ central office will accept applications for the position on a rolling basis, with interviews beginning in the next few weeks.
