Rebecca Lynn Powell of Chapin, S.C., formerly of Laurinburg passed away suddenly due to an automobile accident on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by the Rev. Luther Powell. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.

Rebecca was a daughter of Richard Lee Powell and Patricia Cole Powell, born in Scotland County on May 12, 1974. She graduated in the class of 1992 from Scotland High School where she enjoyed playing flute with the marching band. She proudly earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Central Carolina Technical College and worked with Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, S.C. She formerly worked with FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital and was to begin a new position with Duke University Hospital later in January.

Rebecca was a devoted and loving mother who dedicated her life to caring for others. She enjoyed collecting antiques, reading, cross stitching, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children Hannah Elizabeth Powell and James “Buddy” Franklin Cooper, Jr., both of Chapin, her parents Richard and Patricia Powell of Laurinburg, brother Richard “Richie” Lee Powell, Jr. of Laurinburg, sisters Rachel Leighann Varner and husband James of Laurinburg, and niece and nephews Jason, William Vincent, Madeline, and Ryan.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at Richard Boles Funeral Service.

The family request that memorial gifts be made in memory of Rebecca to the American Heart Association.
