Christine Pratt Penny Burnette of Laurinburg passed to her Heavenly home at the age of 76 on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at the East Laurinburg Church of God with burial following at Scotland Cemetery. The Rev. Jeffery McGirt will be officiating the services.

Christine was born on May 7, 1936 in Hartsville, S.C. a daughter of the late George W. and Alma McLean Pratt. She was the beloved wife to the late Roy Penny and her second husband, the late Eugene “Gene” Burnette. She retired from Abbott Laboratories after many years of service. Christine was a faithful longtime and active member of the East Laurinburg Church of God. She served in the Women’s Ministry and always tried to help in the church where needed, especially cooking her collards. She also enjoyed traveling and being with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was also preceded in death by brothers Frank Pratt, George D. Pratt, and sister Norma Reames.

Christine is survived by her daughter Janet G. Scott of Laurinburg, sisters Beatrice Killingworth of Mullins, S.C., Vickie Ward of Shallotte, Lillie Coward of Latta, S.C., and Margaret Strickland of Waldorf, Md., grandchildren Heather Lynn Scott and Ashley Brooks Scott of Laurinburg, several nieces and nephews, her special friends Peggy Hulon Strickland, Judy Wallace, and Shirley Williams of Laurinburg and Junior Lowery of Rowland, and her church family.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2012 at the East Laurinburg Church of God.

Christine requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the East Laurinburg Church of God, P.O. Box 1954, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
