EDENTON- A pair of former Scotland assistants made their head coaching debuts Friday night but when the final horn sounded on those games, the results were much different.

For former offensive coordinator Wes Mattera, his Aces survived a missed extra point by Northampton-East, allowing Edenton Holmes to escape with a 14-13 victory in Mattera's debut.

Former defensive coordinator Beau Williams did not fare as well.

His Jacksonville bunch fell in its season opener, 23-0, to Wilmington Laney.

Former Scotland coach Mark Barnes' new school, Crest High, was off on Friday and he’ll make his coaching debut with the Chargers when they host county rival, Burns, this Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The Aces will travel to Riverside-Martin this Friday while the Cardinals host Southwest Onslow.
