James Council Pittman, 83, of East Laurinburg died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010 at his home.

He is survived by his sons Bobby Pittman and wife Nancy and Harry Franklin Pittman and wife Lily, all of Laurinburg; 16 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Pittman was born May 2, 1926 in Robeson County and was the son of the late James C. and Emma Todd Pittman. During WWII he served in the United States Navy. Mr. Pittman retired from the Johns-Manville Corporation in 1988 as a mixing room operator.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Hildreth Pittman, two sons, James Pittman and Ronnie Leon Pittman, and a granddaughter, Jamie Pittman.

Memorials are requested for Hospice of Scotland County, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4 at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
