Authorities suspect foul play in the death of Laurel Hill woman whose body was found in her home Thursday afternoon.

Sheriff Shep Jones would not release details about who found the woman or how she may have been killed.

The victim has been identified as 69-year old Thelma Norton, of 21320 Country Mile Road. It is unclear at press time if she lived alone.

Norton was found at 12:30 p.m., Jones said.

"Her body is being transported to Chapel Hill for autopsy," Jones said.

The sheriff said investors were working on leads in the case.

"I have a full staff of investigators working on this," Jones said. "They have generated several suspects. I expect to have warrants drawn up for murder on multiple suspects by tomorrow."

Jones said he expected to release more information this afternoon.
