Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the Stewartsville Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Lewis McLean. Burial will follow the service at Hillside Memorial Park.
Mrs. Whited was born in Ward, W.Va., daughter of the late Samuel and Elsie M. Buckley. She was the loving wife of 61 years to the late William John Whited. She devoted her life to her family as a dedicated homemaker. She taught her children and grandchildren to serve the Lord and to always keep strong Christian values.
Mrs. Whited and her late husband moved from Cedar Grove, W.V. in 1974 to reside in Laurinburg. They became active and faithful members of Stewartsville Baptist Church. Mrs. Whited served as a prayer counselor and also as a Sunday School teacher.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by siblings Charles Buckley, Frances Weyrick, Ada Hedrick, Wesley Buckley, and Catherine Lanhan, and by grandchildren Abbie Mayo, Corbin Britt and Madeline Rossi.
She leaves behind her children, Brenda Whited Britt and husband Morris Britt of Laurinburg, Karen Whited Rossi and husband Frederick Rossi of Fayetteville, and John Mark Whited and wife Donna of Layton, Utah; seven grandchildren, Mark Britt, Tony Britt, Shawn Britt, Jason Rossi, David Whited, Jodi Mayo, and Shellie Reed; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service on Thursday at Stewartsville Baptist Church.
The family requests that memorials be made in memory of Mrs. Whited to Hospice of Scotland County, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353 or to Stewartsville Baptist Church, 10401 McColl Road, Laurinburg, NC 28352.
