He is survived by his wife Mary Monroe of Laurinburg, three sons: Gregory Monroe of Charlotte, Don Monroe of Angier, and Ronald Monroe of Charlotte, daughter Kimberly McRae of Laurinburg, three brothers: Raymond Monroe of Springfield, Mass., Calvin Monroe of Springfield, Mass., and Roy Monroe of Temple Hills, Md., three sisters: Ollie Hodges of Bridgeport, Conn., Emily Barnes of Marston, and Catherine Matthews of Wagram, 11 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
