Police have arrested two St. Andrews University students for involvement in a series of dormitory break-ins.

Between Dec. 12, 2013 and Feb. 18, items including televisions, game systems, and books were stolen from eight dorm rooms at St. Andrews, according to police. Most of the rooms were broken into during the school’s Christmas holiday, police said.

On Feb. 21, 20-year-old Xavier McRae of Spring Lake was arrested and charged with eight counts of breaking and entering and eight counts of larceny.

Marquie Smith, 20, of Lillington, was arrested Wednesday and faces the same charges.

Police were unable to give the value of the stolen items, but say that Smith and McRae were primarily seeking objects to pawn.

“We have found where they had sold items at pawn shops, not here in town, but in the region,” said Lt. Cliff Sessoms of the Laurinburg Police Department.

McRae and Smith were each placed under a $20,000 bond.
