Daniel “Everett” McKenzie, 89, of Laurinburg passed away to his Heavenly home on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012 at the East Laurinburg Church of God officiated by the Rev. Jeffery McGirt. Burial with military honors will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.

Everett was born in Marlboro County, S.C. on June 16, 1923, a son of the late Daniel Alford McKenzie and Carlee Prevatte McKenzie. He was a proud veteran of World War II who served with the U.S. Army. He was a dedicated employee of Abbott Laboratories, retiring after many years of service. He was a faithful longtime member of the East Laurinburg Church of God where he was serving as the Sunday school superintendent.

He is survived by his beloved wife of eight years Edith Evans McKenzie of their home in Laurinburg, children Nancy Fore of Hamlet, Gwendolyn Graham and husband Bill of Atlanta, Ga., Robin Chapman and husband Mike of Laurinburg, and Dean Shoffner and wife Carolyn of Winter Park, Fla., brothers James McKenzie of Oak Island and Hugh Hargrove of Clarkton, sisters Sarah Goins of Hamlet and Margaret Shimate of Honolulu, Hawaii, four grandchildren: Jardie, Michael, Sean, and Shane, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, special friends Carol Sessoms, Glenda Locklear, and Judy Hogan, and his church family.

Flowers are welcome, however the family requests that memorials gifts be made to the East Laurinburg Church of God for the Sunday School Department, P.O. Box 1954, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
