Sybil McFarland Mercer, 83, of Laurinburg passed away on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the First Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. C. F. McDowell, III and the Rev. Dr. L. D. Kimrey. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years Harold Mercer, her sons John Mercer (Marylyn) of Winston-Salem and Scott Mercer (LeAnn) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., her daughter Alyce Mercer of High Point, her brother Robert McFarland of Chapel Hill, and four grandchildren.

Born on May 16, 1929 in Forest City, she was a daughter of the late A. L. and Hattie Baynard McFarland. She retired after serving 27 years as a Medicaid intake administrator for the Department of Social Services. Sybil is remembered as one who always had a good word for everybody and was a loving wife, mom, grandmother, and friend. She loved her Lord, Jesus Christ.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
