Jeremiah 9: 23- 24 – “Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,

Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the Lord.”

We live in a day and time when everyone tries to boast of what they have accomplished. We seek to out-do each other. We seek to have everyone notice us – “Look at me, see what I am.” Unfortunately the church has followed suit. We spend a lot of time talking about what we have done, our great accomplishments, what the world would be like without us. No wonder the people around us yawn and turn away.

God warned Israel through the prophet that they were to boast – but in the correct manner. We are to do our boasting about Him. He is really the One that any true accomplishment is achieved. A church can become an organization, working all things out naturally – or it can be an organism that lives and thrives off the work of God. By giving God all the praise what is done – that gives a New Hope for Today.

Marshall is pastor of New Hope Baptist Church
