Mr. William “Bill” Owens, 82, of Rocky Face, Ga. passed away on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Gibson Baptist Church in Gibson. Burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery.

He is survived by his children and their spouses Lynn Owens Cochran and Husband Randy of Kernersville, Hugh “Chip” Owens and his wife Melanie of Rossville, Ga., and Kenneth Owens of Ringgold, Ga., his brother and sister-in-law Gerald and Thena Owens of Brightsville, S.C., six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was the son of the late Joseph and Lila Laffoday Owens and was preceded in death by his wife Edith McLaurin Owens and sister Phila Williams.

Bill was a veteran of the United States Army, 10th Army Corp. of Engineers having fought in the Korean War. He was a graduate of Clemson University.

Bill was a member of Dug Gap Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Hamilton Medical Center and staff, Dr. Carson and staff, Hamilton Hospice, and Antonia and Misty for their loving care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 200 W. Emory St. Suite 3, Dalton, GA 30720 or to Dug Gap Baptist Church, 2301 Dug Gap Rd. Dalton, GA 30720.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
