A. Crowell Holcomb, 59, passed away on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Laurinburg Presbyterian Church. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Debra Harris Holcomb, his son Christian Lee Holcomb and his wife Tricia Liberatore Holcomb of Raleigh, his daughter Jessica Ellen Holcomb and her husband Tanner Wade Webb of Pawley’s Island, S.C., his sister Jennifer H. McCormick and her husband Jack Smith McCormick, Jr. of Mooresville, his grandchildren John Hunter Holcomb and Austin Crowell Holcomb, and nieces Erin McCormick Miller and her husband Nick Miller and Holly McCormick McKinney and her husband Brockton McKinney.

He was preceded in death by his parents Alton Crowell Holcomb, Sr. and mother Virginia Harrelson Holcomb.

Crowell graduated from Rowland High School in 1971 and attended UNC Chapel Hill and East Tennessee State University. He later served as finance manager with TranSouth from 1976- 2001, and was finance manager of Home Credit Corporation from 2001- 2012.

He also served as past president of Laurinburg Kiwanis Club and as Chairman of Board of Commissioners of the Laurinburg Housing Authority. He was an active member of Laurinburg Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and elder.

Crowell loved bluegrass music and played banjo for the McFarland Road Bluegrass band. He was honorable, brave, and faithful to his family, friends, church, and community. He was true and steady, a rock of strength to loved ones.

He would transcend to another place whenever he played his music leaving all his troubles behind him. He was happiest playing his banjo and watching his grandchildren play.
