Each year, yellow school buses transport Scotland County Schools’ students hundreds of thousands of miles to and from school.
The school district recently took the opportunity to recognize its bus drivers who pilot those buses safely for young people on a daily basis.
“This truly is a remarkable group of drivers,” said Scotland County Schools Transportation Director David Roller. “They care about their students and take great care to operate their buses safely. It is an honor to work with them.”
Receiving the district’s top award for bus drivers was Pate-Gardner Elementary School’s Susan Mace. A 15-year veteran of Scotland County Schools, Mace was named Scotland County Schools’ Bus Driver of the Year for 2011-12.
“Susan (Mace) is always willing to go above and beyond for her students,” said Pate-Gardner Principal Melody Snead. “She works well with other school staff members and parents to make sure she knows any special requirements her students may have and takes such good care of the ones under her care. She is an asset to Pate-Gardner.”
