The Southeastern Soccer Academy helf their final fall session on Nov. 12, hosting almost 20 soccer players from around the region to conclude the 7-week fall session.

The fall academy, open to all players 4-12 years-old and girls 13-18 years-old, gave players from Scotland, Richmond, Hoke and Robeson counties a chance to develop their skills while learning more about the game.

The academy, held at the Morgan Recreation Complex, split the players into three different age divisions, while breaking the game down for each division to best maximize their skills.

With the fall session complete, the academy now turns their attention to their winter session.

The winter academy, open to all players ages 7-12 year-olds for boys and girls, boys from 8th-11th grade and girls 8th-12th grade, is designed to help grow the sport of soccer throughout Scotland County, while providing a vigorous, challenging and enriching environment for players of all ability levels.

The academy will feature a host of dedicated and experienced coaches, including Scotland High School head coach Colin McDavid, Richmond Senior head coach Bennie Howard, Purnell Swett head coach Alaric Strickland, former SHS women’s junior varsity head coach Heidi Poage and Alfonso Peraza, a former professional player from El Salvador.

The academy will begin on Nov. 19 at the Morgan Recreation Complex.

The academy will be held through the months of December, January and February, tentatively set for Dec. 3, Dec. 10, Jan. 7, Jan. 14, Jan. 28, Feb. 4 and Feb. 11.

Instruction will be held at different times for each age level, with 7-8 year-olds practicing from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., 9-10 year-olds working from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 11-12 year-olds starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 11:30 a.m.

Boys from 8th-11th grade and girls from 8th-12th grade will begin at 10 a.m. and end at noon.

Academy members are asked to wear shin guards and bring their own soccer ball and water bottle to the academy.

The cost of the academy is $55 for new academy members and $45 for fall academy members.

Academy brochures can be picked up at the Scotland County Parks and Recreation Offices.
