Sometimes it’s not about how many hits you get, but when you get them.

For Jerry’s Deli’s Timothy Carroll, an 0-for-3 night at the plate heading into the seventh inning of Wednesday night’s contest against Caulder’s Service Center did little to deter the ball player’s spirit, as Carroll registered his lone hit of the night at just the right time to send Jerry’s home with a walk-off single.

Carroll’s poke between first base and right field found just the right spot to score Chase Sessoms, handing Jerry’s a 9-8 victory at Legion Field.

Jerry’s strung together just four hits over the final six innings of the seven frame outing, but a lead-off double by Sessoms in the bottom of seventh jump started Jerry’s late rally. Sessoms stole third to get within 90 feet of home plate, and Carroll’s base knock gave the home team the victory in the tightly contested battle.

Caulder’s opened the contest with a quick 3-0 first inning, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in their fourth at-bat of the game. A Jerry’s throwing error allowed Brandon Holcomb and Bradley Scott to reach home, giving Caulder’s an early 2-run advantage.

Caulder’s pushed their lead to 3-0 on another Jerry’s fielding error, sending Tyler Strickland home for the final score in the top of the first frame.

Jerry’s answered Caulder’s early offense with four first inning runs, plating starting pitcher Austin Wilkerson on a fielding error. Sessoms knocked in Dillon Gause on a double to right field to get Jerry’s within one, and Preonte Walker tied the score at 3-3, crossing the plate on a passed ball.

Sessoms reached home on Caulder’s second passed ball of the night to give Jerry’s their first lead of the game.

Jerry’s sent a pair of runs home in the second inning to double up Caulders, with Sessoms tallying his second base hit of the night to plate Gause on an infield single.

Walker reached home on a Caulder’s passed ball to push Jerry’s margin to 6-3, but a Strickland ground-out pushed a run across the plate for Caulder’s in the third, cutting the Jerry’s lead to 6-4.

Another pair of Jerry’s runs in the bottom of the third gave the home team a commanding 8-4 advantage, but a Caulder’s score in the fourth and a 3-run sixth inning for the visitors tied to game up at 8-8 heading into the seventh frame.

Caulder’s hot offensive sixth inning kicked off with Matt Smith and Cedric Terry reaching home on a Jerry’s throwing error, and John Walters closed the inning’s scoring, reaching home on a Scott base knock to right field.

With the game knotted at 8-8, Carroll’s final hit sealed the win for Jerry’s, giving the home squad their seventh base hit of the night and ninth run to close the game.

Sessoms picked up the win on the mound for Jerry’s, throwing the final five innings in relief while giving up five runs on six hits.

Sessoms also led Jerry’s at the plate, going 3-for-4 on the night with a pair of doubles.

Scott and Kevin Crump led Caulder’s at the plate in the loss, both going 2-for-4 at the dish.

Jerry’s will return to action tonight against Holiday Inn Express in the early 5:30 p.m. contest. Caulder’s will matchup with Canady’s in the night’s late game.
