The 2011 Laurinburg Area Campaign to support St. Andrews Presbyterian College will be co-chaired by two of the college’s leaders in honor of the campus opening 50 years ago in Laurinburg.
“Fifty years ago, in the spring of 1962, Hector MacLean, the first chairman of the St. Andrews Presbyterian College board of trustees, and Dr. Ansley C. Moore, the first president of St. Andrews, started what would become the inaugural Laurinburg Area Campaign for St. Andrews,” said College President Paul Baldasare. “This year, in honor of MacLean’s and Moore’s leadership, current chairman David Burns and I have decided to take on that leadership role in this semi-centennial Laurinburg Area Campaign.”
The campaign has a goal of $500,000 for the fiscal year, which ends on May 31.
Although the kickoff of the public phase of the campaign is coming later than it has in past years, the silent phase started earlier this year and already has more than 150 contributors.
“Over the past decade, this community has repeatedly met a remarkable goal of raising $500,000 annually from supporters in Laurinburg and Scotland County,” said Burns. “Through the continued generosity of many local individuals, families, alumni and businesses, we are confident that the campaign will reach the goal again this year. We have an experienced and deeply committed group of volunteers joining us.”
The campaign this year is of increased importance.
“With our recently announced plan to join forces with Webber International University, we see tremendous opportunities ahead for St. Andrews and the Laurinburg community,” Baldasare said. “The support of our local community is essential to making this new partnership successful in its first year and in the years to come.”
