MAXTON — A 22-year-old Maxton man has died after a shooting at a party early Sunday morning, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
Tyrell “Kat” McDonald, of Vann Street, died at Scotland Memorial Hospital after deputies found him lying in the parking lot of Sarah’s Place on South Patterson Street with a gunshot wound, according to Randall Graham, with the Sheriff’s Office. McDonald was a standout athlete at Purnell Swett High School.
Graham said about 200 people were attending a party at Sarah’s Place when a fight broke out and shots were fired. The shooting was reported at about 2:30 a.m.
When deputies arrived, they administered CPR to McDonald until Emergency Medical Services arrived. A woman, 37-year-old Kissie Braddy of Fancy Drive, Maxton, was shot and injured. She had been treated and released from a hospital by Monday.
No other injuries were reported and no arrests have been made.
Several friends and former classmates posted condolences on Facebook.
“I loved to watchKat play basketball at Swett High School,” wrote Wanda Sampson. “He was one of my favorite athletes. He had a great sense of humor and so respectful … He will be missed.”
