LAURINBURG — St. Andrews University played host to the 2016 Moore County Swim League Championships last week. The St. Andrews Swim Club took fourth place overall with 512 team points after finishing fourth in the girls standings and sixth in the boys.

The Elks Swim Team was crowned the league champions with 1,757.5 overall points, after taking second in the girls standings and first in the boys. The Sandhills Sandsharks weren’t far behind to finish in second place with 1,671.5 points, while the Pinehurst Area Swim Team took third place with 641 points.

St. Andrews took fourth followed by the Pinehurst Parks and Recreation in fifth, CC Whispering Pines Piranhas in sixth and the Country Club of North Carolina in seventh place rounded out the field.

There were a total of 50 races, for kids ages six up to age 14, that included medley relays, IM, free relays and a variety of individual races.

The St. Andrews Swim Club competed in 20 of the 50 events, with two first place finishes — the Girls 13-14 50-yard Free and the Girls 9-10 25-yard.

Cassie Rinkas took the first place finish in the Girls 13-14 50-yard free with a time of 30.18 seconds and Laura Wlodarczak took first in the Girls 9-10 25-yard Back with a time of 18.40 seconds. Wlodarczak also had a second place finish in the Girls 9-10 25-yard Free with a time of 16.01 seconds and third in the Girls 10&U 100-yard IM with a time of 1:39.

The team followed that up with six additional second places finishes by Taylor Johnson in the Girls 7-8 25-yard Free with a time of 19.34 seconds. Johnson also took second in the Girls 7-8 25-yard Fly with a time of 20.82 seconds. Bryce Miller took second in the Boys 7-8 25-yard Back with a time of 25.57 seconds and Rinkas finished second in the Girls 13-14 50-yard Back with a time of 36.23 seconds.

The Girls 200-yard Free Relay team of Johnson, Ava Milkowich, Emma Flanagan and Molly Kuzma took second with a time of 2:41. The other St. Andrews 200-yard free relay team of Madeline Litty, Emma Houg, Kate McDavid and Emily Buie took fourth place with a time of 3:13 seconds.

Litty also took third place individually in the Girls 13-14 50-yard Back with a time of 40.40 seconds and a fourth place finish in the Girls 13-14 100-yard IM with a time of 1:23.

Emma Houg also competed in a number of events, taking third place individually in the Girls 9-10 25-yard Free with a time of 16.89 seconds and fifth place in Girls 10&U 100-yard IM with a time of 1:44.

Along with a first and second place finish, Rinkas also took third in the Girls 13-14 100-yard IM with a time of 1:22.

For the boys, Alec Houg took third place in the Boys 13-14 50-yard Back with a time of 38.67 seconds.

The St. Andrews Swim Club also competed in the following races:

The league championships were the final event of the season for the St. Andrews Swim Club. Coach Taylor Cooper will be trying to field a fall swim team and more information about that can be found on his website, www.coopswimllc.com
