LAURINBURG — The Scotland County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man in connection with obtaining prescription medicine illegally.

Investigators said they received a tip that Clarence Smith had attempted to obtain a controlled substance from Medical Village Pharmacy on Lauchwood Drive.

Deputies set up a traffic stop Monday and during a field interview with Smith found 90 doses of Oxycodone Hydrochloride in the name of Linda Smith, according to the sheriff’s office.

Smith was charged with trafficking Schedule II narcotics and obtaining prescription medication by fraud.

He was taken to the Scotland County jail and placed under a $100,000 bond.
