LAURINBURG — The Laurinburg Area Campaign once again exceeded its annual goal of raising $500,000 in support of St. Andrews University.

This is the 21st consecutive year that the local community has met its goal, school officials said.

“It is truly gratifying that over 300 local people and businesses come together to insure that St. Andrews is once again able to surpass the goal for 2016,” said co-chair Beacham McDougald.

The final total reached $506,949.30 including 238 gifts from 316 donors.

The campaign was co-chaired by McDougald and his wife, Lynn. Key supporters included volunteers: Mac Doubles, Terry Garner, Wayne Hobbs, Lee Howell, Richard Massey, Ken Nichols, Anne Todd, Carol Whitehead, and Emily Womble.

“This year is another great example of the extraordinary support that St. Andrews receives annually from the Laurinburg community,” said SAU President Paul Baldasare. “Our volunteers worked hard throughout the spring to achieve and exceed the goal.”

The funds raised account for 20% of the St. Andrews annual fundraising revenue. Combined with other resources, St. Andrews will be able to improve facilities on the campus, support faculty and staff, and supply student scholarships.

“Truly we are blessed,” said McDougald. “St. Andrews injects millions of dollars into our local economy and the Laurinburg Area Campaign is undoubtedly the best investment that we make to our community.”

This mutual relationship has served St. Andrews and the Laurinburg/Scotland County community for more than 50 years.

St. Andrews University is a branch of Webber International University.
