LAURINBURG — A couple wanted on multiple child sexual abuse charges turned themselves over to Scotland County deputies on Wednesday.
Scotland authorities had been looking for Desmond Earl Knight, 43, and Dermia Chantel Braddy, 29, both of 142 Sandy Acres Mobile Home Park in Raeford since the beginning of June.
Warrants for Knight were obtained on June 3 for first-degree forcible statutory rape of a child less than 13 years of age by an adult and 17 counts of indecent liberties with a minor child.
Knight was considered armed and dangerous and had been on the run since 2013 from warrants in Hoke County. He was wanted in Scotland County on sex charges since August 2015.
Braddy was entered into the national database on Tuesday for felony accessory after the fact.
Knight is being held on a $355,000 secured bond. He was also given a $2,200 secured bond for outstanding misdemeanor warrants. Braddy is under a $20,000 secured bond.
Both will make a first appearance today in Scotland County District Court.
Sheriff Ralph Kersey thanked other law enforcement agencies and the public for help with the case.
“Without the assistance of each and every one of you, this would not have been possible,” Kersey said. “Together, when the people of Scotland County and the sheriff’s office combine, the potential and opportunity becomes limitless in our effort to make our county a better and more safe place to live, work and play for our people and the families that reside here.”
