LAURINBURG —Social worker Brandy Carter was awarded Scotland Health Care System’s top honor — the Award of Excellence on Wednesday.

The annual award is the highlight of National Healthcare Week celebration by the local health system.

Carter was given a standing ovation as as System President and CEO Greg Wood announced the 2016 Award of Excellence recipient.

“Brandy is characterized as persistent, possesses an upbeat attitude, and is truly amazing,” Wood said. “She supports the values and high quality care of Scotland Health Care System quietly and consistently.”

According to Wood, providers, staff and patients reach out to Carter “even after hours because they know she cares.”

“She is the epitome of service excellence,” he said. “Brandy is always smiling and raising the spirits of those who interact with her. Her infectious smile, pleasant demeanor, crazy sense of humor and extensive knowledge makes her a valuable and enjoyable member of the team.”

Carter joined the health care system in 2011 as a social worker/discharge planner in Resource Management. In her role, she works with patients to ensure a successful transition at discharge.

As top award winner, Carter represents the finance division. She received a check for $1,000, a parking space of her choice, and an individual plaque. She is also listed on the Award of Excellence plaque that hangs in the hospital’s lobby.

“I greatly appreciate working here at Scotland Health Care System and I thank everyone for being here today,” Carter said.

The Award of Excellence program recognizes and rewards the associate who demonstrates service excellence always and promotes a compassionate, caring atmosphere to customers and fellow staff members. One hundred and forty-four associates representing six divisions throughout the Health Care System were nominated for the prestigious award.

Wood also congratulated the divisional winners. Each of these associates received a check for $100 and a certificate congratulating them on being named a divisional winner.

“Keep modeling the behavior that represents excellence at Scotland Health Care System,” Wood said. “We are making some amazing things happen in a very challenging environment. National Healthcare Week is our opportunity to recognize and thank the excellent staff here at Scotland Health Care System.”
