FAYETTEVILLE — A convicted sex offender from Scotland County was arrested this week working as ride operator during the Fayetteville Dogwood Festival, according to a release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The Scotland County Sheriff’s Office alerted deputies in Cumberland County about 42-year-old Timmy Lane Walters, saying he had violated terms of his probation. Cumberland deputies discovered he was working for Michael’s Amusements of Fayetteville, the release said.

Walters was arrested Tuesday on Hay Street while helping the company set up for today’s Dogwood Festival. He was charged with parole violations. He’s also been charged with failure to register as a sex offender with a new address, the release said.

Walters was turned over to Scotland County Sheriff’s Office, the release said.

Walters was convicted of an attempted sex offense May 12, 2008, the N.C. Sex Offender Registry said. He was released from prison in 2012.

The release said Walters worked at a fair set up at Cross Creek Mall from April 7 through Sunday.
