CHAPEL HILL — The Laurinburg Exchange sports editor Logan Martinez won a second-place award in the 2015 North Carolina Press Association News, Editorial and Photojournalism contest.
Martinez’ award was announced Thursday during the 2016 Winter Institute and Annual Meeting at the Hill Alumni Center on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill.
The ceremony also recognizes the best in mechanical excellence, general and departmental news coverage, literary excellence, promotion of community interests, graphics and appearance, editorial vigor, use of photographs and advertising enterprise.
Logan won for his sports feature “Road to recovery” about Fighting Scot standout Jaylend Ratliffe, who was injured in an ATV accident three days before the start of football practice.
“Logan wrote a great feature and the recognition of his efforts and talent is much deserved,” said Scott Witten, editor of The Laurinburg Exchange.
Martinez is a 2013 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in United States History. After a six-month stint as a freelance sportswriter with the Orlando Sentinel and the Osceola News-Gazette in Orlando, Florida, he was named the sports editor at The Laurinburg Exchange in July 2014.
