LAURINBURG — The Fighting Scots inched closer to the top in this week’s Associated Press state football poll sitting at No. 2 after an nail biting 20-13 win over Pinecrest last week.
Mallard Creek took the biggest nose dive of the week as they fell from No. 2 to No. 6 after suffering their second loss of the season. The defending 4A champions have been all over the polls this season and could sneak back into the top five if one of the other teams falters.
Greensboro Dudley remained a top the 4A poll at No. 1 for a fifth week in a row as they moved to 8-0 on the season. The Fighting Scots are right on Dudley’s heels in the voting, as the two teams were separated by just eight points and three first-place votes.
Apex Middle Creek moved up one spot to No. 3, while Wake Forest jumped up two spots to No. 4 as Matthews Butler dropped to No. 5 following their bye week.
Pinecrest is barely hanging on in the polls as they dropped from No. 8 to N0. 13 after last week’s SEC showdown with the Scots.
