LAURINBURG — Octavis McLaurin is a 5-foot 11-inch senior at Scotland High School. He is the starting nose guard, wearing No. 55, for the Fighting Scots this season and has been named this week’s Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
Each Friday, the Exchange will feature one offensive, one defensive and one special teams player from the Fighting Scots, chosen by the coaches, to be the Players of the Week.
Octavis continued to be a leader on defense during Friday’s game against New Hanover. He made sure the defensive line held strong and forced New Hanover to punt from their own end zone, which is why head coach Richard Bailey selected him as the Defensive Player of the Week.
“Octavis is the heart of the defense” said Bailey. “He does a great job of demanding double teams.”
The 275-pound senior plans to attend North Carolina Central University to study chemistry. Octavis hopes one day to become an orthopedic surgeon.
Something people might not know about Octavis is that he is a great team player and loves playing sports with his friends.
When asked what he is most looking forward to in the 2016 season Octavis said he is looking forward to he and his teammates winning a 4A State Championship.
