LAURINBURG — After leading Scotland High School to a 12-1 season in 2015 head coach Richard Bailey was selected to lead the East All-Star team for the 69th annual East-West All Star football game in Greensboro.
Next year’s coaches were announced earlier this week and Bailey topped the list for the East Team, along with assistant coaches Reggie Lucas, Wake Forest; Samuel Hales, West Johnston; Caleb King, East Carteret; Jack Holley, East Duplin and Jason Battle, Rocky Mount.
In 2013, Bailey was selected as an assistant coach for the East Team and was in Greensboro for this year’s contest to watch two of his players — 2016 Scotland graduates Timon McMillian and Mazani Stubbs.
The West Team’s head coach will be Greg Lloyd, of Kings Mountain. He will be assisted by DeVore Holman, Davie County; Lonnie Jones, High Point Central; Jimmy Upchurch, West Stokes; Greg Hill, Ashbrook and Larry Brow, A.C. Reynolds.
Next year’s East-West All Star game is scheduled for July 19, 2017 at Robert B. Jamieson Stadium in Greensboro. Both head coaches will learn who their players are in early March when teams are selected.
Coaches for the East-West All Star men’s and women’s basketball and soccer teams were also announced. Those coaches included:
Basketball — East Women: Nattalie McArthur, Jack Britt and W. Chris Owens, Clinton. West Women: Kim Furlough, Northern Guilford and Brandon Halloway, Pisgah.
East Men: Brett Queen, Hoggard and Michael Proctor, Northside. West Men: Sean Vestal, North Forsyth and Brian Franklin, McDowell.
Soccer — East Women: Scott Sloan, Heritage. West Women: Angelo Palozzi, Newton-Conover. East Men: Joe McCarthy, Northern Nash. West Men: Jeremy Krist, Williams.
