Fayetteville SwampDogs hosting CPL All-Star game

LAURINBURG — The Fayetteville SwampDogs will be hosting the 2016 Coastal Plain League All-Star game and family fun on Sunday and Monday at J.P. Riddle Stadium.

The 18th annual Coastal Plains All-Star Game will be two days of festivities starting on Sunday, July 10 at 5 p.m. with the All-Star Fan Fest. A Home Run Derby for local legends from Fayetteville and Cumberland County will follow on Sunday at 6 p.m. and the Coastal Plain League Home Run Derby at 7 p.m.

One player from all 16 Coastal Plain League teams — eight from the East and eight from the West — will participate in the first four-minute round and try to hit as many home runs as possible. The top four finishers will advance to the second round.

In round two, each player will again have four minutes to hit as many home runs as they can, with the top two finishers advancing to the championship round.

The final two players will go head-to-head in the four-minute championship round to determine this year’s 2016 Home Run Derby Champion.

On Monday, fans can return to J.P. Riddle Stadium for the all-star game, gates open at 5 p.m. and there will be a fireworks show following the game.

Tickets for the All-Star Fan Fest are $7 for general admission, or $9 for box seats. Seniors age 55 and over and military tickets are $6 and admission for children children 12 and over is also $6.
