LAURINBURG — The 10th annual Knights Wrestling-Fitness Camp is scheduled to take place from Sunday, July 10- Thursday, July 14 on the campus of St. Andrews University.
The overnight camp, will host boys and girls from grades 7-12, is for beginners and advanced wrestlers. The athletes will be divided into age groups, weight classes and ability levels. The camp will consist of learning wrestling technique, live wrestling, running and strength training. Athletes will eat in the university cafeteria.
The featured instructor for this camp is Hall-of-Fame wrestler Gray Simons, who is the only wrestler to win seven national college titles and six “Outstanding Wrestling Awards while being a member of two United States Olympic teams.
The cost of the camp is $345, and each camper will receive a T-shirt. St. Andrews wrestling coach Joe Baranik is the director of the camp and he will be assisted by former Knights great Denzel Vaughan, a three-time national qualifier and two-time All-American at the school.
Knights to host fitness day camp for kids
The 6th annual Knights Wrestling-Fitness Day Camp is slated for July 18-21 from 9 a.m. to noon each day at the St. Andrews wrestling gym.
This camp is for boys and girls from grades 1-6. The day camp will help teach kids how to become fit, learn a skill, become better prepared for self-defense, gain self-confidence and develop work ethic. Each student will be paired by age, weight and skill level.
In addition, kids will engage in fitness activities such as tug-of-war, kick ball, team handball, whiffle ball, “Vision Quest,” and “Odd-Person Out” run scramble. The cost of this camp is $70 and includes a T-shirt.
