HOLLY SPRINGS — Laurinburg’s Matthew Sellers was selected to participate in the Impact Baseball North Carolina Middle School All-Star Tournament last weekend.
The tourney, which took place Saturday and Sunday at the Holly Springs Salamanders’ North Main Athletic Complex, saw six teams compete in two pools for a title.
Sellers played for Team Maroon, which finished as the runner-up in Pool B. Pool A’s Team Black won the championship after beating Pool B champion Team Green 10-9.
Sellers started on the mound for Team Maroon and also did damage at the plate in helping his squad to a 1-2 tournament record. Team Maroon lost its first contest to Team Green 9-2, but rebounded to beat Team Grey 10-6.
Team Maroon saw its tourney run end in the third-place game when Team Gold won 8-4.
To earn a spot in the All-Star tournament, players, like Sellers, were selected to participate from a series of tryouts held throughout the spring.
