Scotland County gears up for Cross Country Championships


LAURINBURG — The first annual Scotland County Elementary School Cross Country Championships will now be part of the Chalkbanks Challenge & River Festival.

The one mile championship will present awards to the top two boys and girls teams and the top ten individuals. Currently, running clubs are growing at Sycamore Lane, Covington Street, Wagram and South Scotland Elementary Schools.

The one mile trail race will give teams of five the opportunity to bring a championship trophy back to their school. The race is free to all participants and the first 50 to register will receive a free meet T-Shirt.

Parents of runners can email Bill Cason at [email protected] to register and for more information. Registration should include the student’s name, grade and elementary school.

A liability waiver will need to be signed at packet pick up Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the Festival at the Chalkbanks Access Area at the Lumber River State Park in Wagram. School teams will be formed Saturday morning at the Festival.

AAU football to host ranking combine

ROCK HILL, S.C. Elite 100 is hosting a Regional Ranking Combine for interested football players on May 21 at District 3 Stadium.

Located at 210 S. Cherry Rd. in South Carolina, the combine will welcome athletes ages 6-18. Needed items include T-Shirts, shorts, cleats and water bottles, and the registration cost is $25.

The combine will test height and weight measurements, positional and other drills and 7-on-7 competitions.
