LAURINBURG — Cypress Creek Golf Links hosted its annual spring veterans tournament last week, and 68 veterans participated to enjoy a day of golf, food and fellowship.

The winning team of John Gibson, John Turner, Jay Clark and Fred Cottingham shot a 15-under par 57 to win the tourney. Right behind the foursome was the runner-up team of Ray Blades, Jimmy Locklear, Wayne Whitt and Mel Britt, who combined to shoot a 14-under 58.

As a way to thank the veterans for their service, Cypress Creek allowed them to play for free and they were served a catered lunch by General McArthur’s Restaurant of Laurinburg.

Upon registering to play, all a participant had to do was list their name and military branch. Last year, 76 veterans convened at Cypress Creek for the free golf tournament.
