LAURINBURG — Former St. Andrews University track and field and cross country coach Bill Cason is set to host an interest meeting next month for a youth track and field club.
Called the PR Sports Running Club, the team is open to elementary, middle and high school students. Boys and girls as young as five years old can join Cason’s new venture, and events will begin as soon as the squad is constructed.
The interest meeting for parents and students seeking information will take place on April 5 at 7 p.m. at Pate Stadium in Laurinburg.
“This is just me wanting to develop a bigger base of local track kids because I know there are some kids that can run, jump and throw that live in this area that have no idea they can do any of those things,” Cason said.
PR Sports Running Club events will take place across the region in places like Myrtle Beach, Charlotte, Greensboro and other cities.
“We’re going forward whether there’s two kids or 100,” Cason said. “This is not an experiment, it’s a done deal that we’re starting the program, and just like anything we’ll start at ground zero and move forward.”
