HIGH POINT – Laurinburg native and Barton College pitcher Dylan Ward was named the Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
The Scotland High School graduate was honored after tossing six shutout innings in a 10-0 win over Glenville State on Saturday afternoon at Nixon Field.
Ward, a sophomore, allowed just three hits in his six innings of work and struck out six batters compared to just one walk. It was the second straight quality start to open the season for Ward who earned a win against Lenoir-Rhyne University in the second game of the season.
Ward is now 2-0 on the season with a 0.75 ERA. In 12 innings pitched, he has given up eight hits while striking out 15. He ranks second in Conference Carolinas in wins and ERA, while standing in a tie for eighth in total strikeouts.
