SAU wrestling notches 2nd straight win

LAURINBURG — The St. Andrews University wrestling team notched its second straight victory Wednesday night, downing Anderson University 35-13.

The Trojans forfeited a pair of matches to the host Knights, and St. Andrews scored a pair of victories by pinfall en route to the win.

Sophomore Brennan Patton opened the night with a hard-fought 2-0 decision victory over Tyler Fitzgerald, then Anderson forfeited the 133- and 141-pound bouts. Junior Isaac King followed with a major decision win over Dylan Crossland at 149 pounds to give St. Andrews a commanding lead heading into the middleweight tilts.

The Knights were forced to forfeit at 157 pounds, then Anderson got on the board with its first victory when Jared Costa downed sophomore Kavoris Perry with a 6-4 decision win.

At 174 pounds, senior Denzel Leggett helped St. Andrews get back on track with a 17-7 major decision victory over Richie Mills. The Knights ended the night with a pair of wins as senior Jared Key (197 pounds) and sophomore Tyler Evers (285 pounds) each recorded pins.

The Trojans got their final win at 184 pounds as Michael Gallagher beat sophomore Argie Burnette by major decision, 10-1.

St. Andrews will return to the mat on Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. when it hosts Limestone College for Senior Night.
