12U softball team to host tryouts

The 12U Outkast travel softball team is set to host tryouts this Saturday and Jan. 16 at 11 a.m.

The tryouts will take place at Laurinburg Optimist Park, located at 9961 Turnpike Road, and the squad is seeking girls born between 2003 and 2004. For more information, contact Ryan Sheppard at 910-384-1406 or Charles Parker at 910-318-5478.

SAU wrestling academy begins Monday

The second session for the St. Andrews University “Knights Wrestling Academy” begins Monday and will meet from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

The camp, which is geared towards kids ages five to 15, will teach wrestling and self-defense skills as well as tumbling and gymnastic activities. The cost is $50 for 10 lessons and competition — the kids will have the opportunity to wrestle in three matches against fellow grapplers from other clubs.
