LAURINBURG — Propelled by a double-double from junior forward Alex Tharp, the St. Andrews University men’s basketball team nearly reached the century mark in its 98-85 win over Morris College at home Wednesday.

Four players reached double-digit scoring for the Knights, who improved to 3-4 overall this season with the victory. The loss dropped the visitors from South Carolina to 2-6.

Tharp led the way for St. Andrews, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. The 6-8, 215-pounder also handed out two assists and blocked a pair of shots. Jeff Gulley followed with 19 points and eight rebounds, and Titus Gary and Kwasean McCaskell added 13 points apiece. Gary was a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc and also tallied six assists and two steals in the win.

St. Andrews hit 10 3-pointers in the contest and shot 51 percent from the field.

Morris had three players crack double digits. Qu’Ran Turner scored 18 points and dished out three assists to pace his team, while Eric Jones tacked on 14 points and Ryan Jenkins notched 12.

St. Andrews will play its fourth Appalachian Athletic Conference contest of the season Saturday when the Knights travel to Barbourville, Kentucky to take on Union.
