CAMERON — The Scotland boys basketball team notched its first win of the season Tuesday night, defeating Union Pines 59-45.
Willie Douglas led the Scots with 18 points in his first action on the court this year. The senior returned to the Scotland lineup after sitting out the opener due to his commitment to the football team.
With the win, head coach Matt Justin notched his first career victory as a member of the Scotland program.
The Scots improved to 1-1 this season while the loss dropped the Vikings to 0-2.
Scotland will enjoy the rest off the week off before returning to the court Tuesday at home against Marlboro County.
Girls hoops drop 3rd straight
Scotland’s girls basketball squad lost its third consecutive game to begin the year Tuesday, falling to Union Pines 68-54 on the road.
The defeat was the second in as many days for Janie Hodges’ program — the Scots were trounced by Terry Sanford 56-40 on Monday.
Four players cracked double-digit scoring for the Vikings and they were led by Nyona Shields’ 17 points and six rebounds. Union Pines improved to 1-1 this year with the win.
Scotland, 0-3 on the season, will next travel to Southeast Raleigh for a road contest Monday.
