MEBANE — The Scotland County Parks and Recreation’s Midget League All-Stars will play for a championship next month.

The Baby Scots, comprised of the top 11-12 year-old talent in the county, defeated Alamance County 20-14 in the semifinals of the Statewide Activities Committee tournament at Eastern Alamance High School Saturday.

Darrius Dockery scored on touchdown runs of 63 and 91 yards, and quarterback Tyler Barfield tossed a 15-yard score to receiver Korve’ McBryde to pace Scotland.

“It was a great win,” said Scotland head coach Bryan Dockery. “We fell behind but the kids kept their cool and fought back for a big win.”

Scotland will play Haw River Dec. 5 at Legion Park in Laurinburg for the SWAC title. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. Haw River defeated Wilson in the other semifinal matchup.

Alamance had a shot in the final minute to score a touchdown and potentially take the lead against Scotland, but the Baby Scots’ defense held firm for a clutch goal-line stand.

“The kids played so hard and they want that championship,” Dockery said. “They are excited about winning it in front of the home crowd.”
