Two Scots named all-SEC

LAURINBURG — The Scotland boys soccer team placed two of its players on the all-Southeastern Conference squad that was announced this week.

Jeb Britt and McKenzie White were honored for the Scots, who finished 7-12 overall and 2-8 in the SEC this year. Danny Gallagher’s program finished fifth in the conference and lost to Hoke, 6-0, in the first round of the SEC tournament.

Britt, one of Scotland’s top defensive players, joins White who led the Scots in goals scored this year.

Pinecrest, the SEC regular season and conference tournament champion, led all schools with seven players named all-conference.

The Patriots were 17-4-2 this year and advanced to the third round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4A playoffs where they were defeated by Myers Park, 1-0.

Dylan Clark, James Corrigan, Andrew Hassenfelt, Chris Kester, Cameron Morton, Grant Williams and Nick Williamson were all selected.

Richmond Senior, which placed second in the SEC with a 11-6 mark and 7-3 conference record, had six players named. The Raiders lost in the first round of the playoffs to Mooresville, 6-3.

Carlos Alcocer, Alex Alvarado, Max Diaz, Alex Lopez, Ryan Ross and Corey Smith were Richmond’s representatives.

Four Lumberton players were selected to the all-SEC squad — Conference Player of the Year Miguel Bello, Rene Altamirano, Zach Cook, Jose Galindo. The Pirates were 13-8-2 this season and lost in the first round of the playoffs at New Bern, 6-2.

Hoke was fourth in the conference with a 10-13 overall mark and 4-6 record in the SEC. The Bucks saw their season end in the semifinals of the conference tournament when they were bounced by Pinecrest, 4-0. Edwin Andoney, Darwyn Lopez and Alex Patricio were the Bucks’ selections.

Purnell Swett finished last in the SEC, but scored a conference win for the season straight season under Conference Coach of the Year Alaric Strickland. The Rams were 2-15-2 overall and 1-9 against SEC foes before falling in the first round of the conference tournament to Lumberton, 7-1. The two players named all-SEC were Zachary Locklear and Chavon Lowry.
