240 cited in speed campaign
Last week, the state Highway Patrol and Laurinburg Police Department netted more than 240 charges on Scotland County roads in efforts spurred by the Governor’s Highway Safety Program No Need to Speed campaign. The campaign began on March 25 and focused on reducing speed-related collisions. Like every other county in the state, Scotland saw its jobless rate jump in January. According to a report by the state Department of Commerce, Scotland County’s unemployment rate rose by just over a percentage point from December. The local unemployment rate was 17.8 percent in Janaury, up from 16.6 percent the previous month.
